Increased exercise over the span of your dog’s life makes him healthier!

Walking your dog every day is one of the best ways exercise your dog.  It’s low impact so it’s appropriate for puppies and seniors too.  Exercise will help prevent your dog from getting cardiovascular disease, liver disease and many other ailments associated with lack of exercise.  Regular walking will build your dog’s bones and muscles up so he’ll be strong and more likely to combat disease in the unlikely event he becomes sick.   Weak bones and muscles can equate to a weakened immune system and that’s not acceptable.  Daily walks will also prevent that battle of the bulge!  We all have experience with that.  Just like you, your pet can struggle with weight especially as he enters his golden years.

Early and consistent socialization from daily walks will make your dog more confident.

As a dog interacts with the world through the use of his senses, he’s on a path of discovery that will build his confidence.  As experiences the outside world, he becomes more confident in himself and is more trusting.  The interaction with people and other animals is an integral part of your dog’s development.  A lack thereof will no doubt result in your dog being afraid.  As if being afraid is not bad enough, your dog may then express his fear through unwanted behaviors.  His anxiety may make him aggressive towards others outside the family, he may frighten easy, or cry.  He may even experience separation anxiety when you and other family members are away.  Where’s the leash? Walking your dog results in a better behaved canine companion.

Your dog needs mental and physical stimulation, just like humans do.  Dogs that are not walked begin to display problem behaviors.  Barking, chewing, rough play, and other attention seeking behaviors will surface when a dog has not been exercised.  Being able to explore and hunt like he’s supposed to will keep your dog calm and essentially a pleasure to be around.  Instead of knocking over the garbage can or digging in the garden, he will scavenge the neighborhood with you or a dog walker twice a day to release that pent up energy! As he explores the neighborhood and takes in the world around him, he’s releasing energy and fulfilling his purpose as a predatory animal.
