Holidays bring feasts galore!  There are a slew of foods your pet can partake in, but keep in mind there are also a handful of toxic and unsafe foods too.  Below you will find what I call the “Naughty & Nice” list.  Print it out, put it on your fridge and become familiar with the list during the holidays, as well as year round!

NICE:

TURKEY in small amounts, boneless, skinless, white meat are A-ok! Feel free to share!

POTATOES in moderation are ok.  However they need to be PLAIN and either mashed or boiled.  They contain a lot of starch which can be hard for your pet to digest.

VEGGIES are healthy but limit them.  Also there are a handful that are a better choice than others. Stick with carrots, green beans and peas. These are yummy treats yet safe for your pet.  Again, plain!

EGGS! Your dog’s love them!  On Christmas morning or more often, whip them up a nice plate of scrambled eggs too!  High in protein, minerals and vitamins that are fantastic for your dog!  While yours may be made with all kinds of yummy ingredients, keep your pets simple!  No milk, butter or salt.  No onions….just egg!

NAUGHTY:

STUFFING should be avoided.  Most dishes are chock full of the things your pet should be avoiding.  Onions, garlic, spices and herbs.  Not good for your dogs tummy and most are toxic for them.

GRAPES and RAISINS are considered FATAL to dogs.  In ANY amount.  Avoid and seek emergency assistance immediately if they ingest any amounts.

GRAVY is far too fatty and salty.  Just stick with the turkey!

BONES may be seen on commercials and on TV often being a treat for a dog, however they are hollow and some splinter easily, especially the bird bones.  They can puncture or choke your pet so skip them altogether!

SUGAR and SPICE SUBSTITUTES should be avoided at all costs. Seizures, coma, liver failures are all direct results of these seemingly harmless human snacks.

This list is not an all inclusive list so please talk with your vet or do a search online to see what other treats you can add to your personal “Naughty & Nice” list.
