This morning I was reading an article about Michael Young, an engineering professor at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Mr. Young is also a pilot, and he uses his time and his plane to support Pilots N Paws, a nonprofit organization that assists people who rescue, shelter, or foster animals by transporting the animals long distance by plane. Their site features many stirring stories of pets rescued from imminent euthanasia, and the one I read this morning about Mr. Young described a recent rescue he flew that saved a pregnant dog named Danni, who gave birth to her litter that day. Mr. Young has flown as many as seventeen dogs in one flight from his Columbia 400, having to take out the back seat to do so, and he has completed over 20 flights in the last year. In honor of people like Mr. Young and the rescuers, foster parents, and adopters they serve, consider making your next pet a rescue. There are many organizations to assist you, and nothing would make me or my Corgis dance more!
