6 Must Have Herbal Aides For Your Kitty!

In a previous post we told you how the healing properties of herbs can help your dog.  Well, you might have been wondering if herbs can benefit your cat too.  We thought so!  The answer is a resounding….YES!  Herbs can also restore balance to the body systems and organs of your beloved feline.  Again, conventional medicine serves to treat a symptom whereas you should use herbs in hopes of the need for conventional medicine.  Keep in mind that with conventional medicines, you will see a more drastic results but that does not take away from the powerful, long time benefits of herbs.

Here are 6 of the many herbs you can grow in your animal herb garden:

Valerian serves as a stimulant for your cat.  If he needs to shed a few pounds, this is the herb for you.  Rumor has it that cats love nibbling on this herb so if your cat needs a boost for one reason or another, here you go!

Peppermint, and Rosemary  both serve to keep pesky insects at bay!  Draw a warm bath for Mr. Kitty and voila! A natural flea and tick repellent!  The oil from these will achieve the same goal so you can combine both or just use one, depending on your preference or what’s available in your animal herb garden.

Licorice Root is known for many healing benefits.  If your kitty has allergies and scratches a lot, licorice root will ease that itch!  It also is known to help with colds and digestive issues.  Senior kitties love this herb for its anti-inflammatory effects.  As arthritis kicks in, he’ll really appreciate this natural remedy.

Goldenseal is perfect for wound care.  It’s a safe and natural way to kill bacteria and keep wounds from becoming infected.

Cat Thyme can be used in the same way as cat nip.  Just as cat nip makes cats happy, so does cat thyme!  Your kitty will be soothed and happy.  A happy cat makes for a happy pet parent!  Need we say more? Planter beware though, this herb has a very bad odor.  You might want to plant this out doors!

Raspberry Leaf is wonderful for expectant Momma Cats.  It’s helps heal the uterus after the birth of the kittens. It helps stimulate the production of milk for the Momma Cat too.

VegetarianismAs with any treatment, consult your holistic vet before administering any home remedies.   Never try to guess or diagnose your cat’s ailments.   Using herbs for their healing properties can produce amazing, soothing results but caution must be exercised as you treat your cat.  Keep in mind that some herbs can be fatal if ingested so do your research and always seek the advice of your holistic vet.  Do you have an animal herb garden?
