Go Crazy with Your Treats, Part 2

Yesterday I promised you I’d be back with some of the nuttier, more sophisticated, high-brow treats I found, and I’m here to deliver! First of all, dogster.com did not disappoint. Their article brought three amazing treats. First up was Carob-Dipped Valentine’s Day Dog Treats from Doggie Stylish. They’re full of good, healthy things like applesauce, beef or chicken broth, honey, molasses, whole-wheat flour, and carob chips. These are much like the pupcakes I described on November 7. They make good, doggy sense. But that’s just the beginning! Then we move on to Red Velvet Pupcakes adapted from Kaboose.com. Again, we’ve got the whole-wheat flour and applesauce, but we pick it up with beet juice and low-fat cottage cheese. That’s fancy! I respect the cook that gets her beet juice together, and if any of you make them I hope you’ll write back about your experience, not to mention the taste. Finally, dogster leaves us with Valentine Liver Nibbles (fromThe Honest Kitchen) and my favorite opening line for any recipe, “Nothing says ‘Be my Valentine’ better than a blender full of raw beef liver.” I agree, except I might have written it as “Nothing says ‘Be my Valentine’ like a blender full of raw beef liver.” This recipe calls for a lot of stuff ranging from organic beef or chicken liver to free-range eggs to instant oats, applesauce (optional) and yeast (optional), and kelp (not optional?). If you make this one, you’re my hero. Really. That’s enough for today, though. Check in tomorrow for part 3!
