blue essential oil in glass bottle, wooden spoon and healing flo Is your dog stressed or fearful?  Is your patience growing thin as you work to implement an effective behavior modification program? Well, there’s an added holistic measure that may work wonders for your dog along the way. The healing power of flowers is a foreign notion to many of us who have been raised, primarily, on western medicine.  Read on as we tell you about what we learned from Nicole Wilde’s book “How to Help Your Fearful Dog”.  This just might be what your dog needs. Flower essences work to change the body’s energy to promote healing as opposed to what we’re used to in western medicine – which is mostly the masking of symptoms that we suffer from.  Well, back in the 1930’s with a man named Edward Bach.  He developed the first system of using flowers for therapeutic reasons.  His practices led to the conclusion that using the energies in plants, tress, bushes and special waters could restore a healthy state of mind.   These Bach Flower Essences were originally meant for humans but have since been used for pets too.   So, Back identified 38 flower essences and their healing powers.   They were all grouped according to the problems that they eased.  Fear and uncertainty were two of the groups. There’s a product on the market called “Rescue Remedy”.  This product has five of those essences that Bach identified.   Listed below are those five essences and what they’re used for.  This combination is used to restore your pet to a less anxious, stressed state. Impatiens:  mental stress and tension Clematis: disorientation Rock rose: fear and panic Cherry Plum: desperation Star of Bethlehem: shock In Nicole Wilde’s book she goes on to identify uses for Rescue Remedy.   Here are a few of them:

    • Transporting a nervous dog to the groomer or bet
    • Dogs who are afraid of thunder or other environmental noises
    • Dogs who are experiencing separation anxiety
    • Alternative to tranquilizers
