The 21 Day Fix

The 21 Day Fix

You have heard of the old saying “It Takes 21 days to form a Habit” haven’t you?  Or perhaps you have heard of the “21 day fix” by beach body?  You CAN make big changes in just 21 short days. So, why would it be any different for your dog to also accomplish some amazing basics in obedience training in 21 days?  If you dedicate 21 days to working with your pup you are most assuredly bound to see some results!  Don’t give up on your pooch!  Give him the time and attention needed to learn and grow!  Most dogs love to “work”, but don’t forget to also make this a fun experience for you both!

You need to determine the personality and needs of your pooch.  Are they sensitive or old and set in their ways?  Try to develop your 21 day plan to encompass learning techniques that you feel will work best with your pet as there is really not a “one technique fits all” in the learning world.  Figure out what motivates your particular pet and build from there.  Sounds practical, right?

Please always, ALWAYS perform training with positive reinforcements.  Treats and rewards work the best.  Praise that pooch for everything they accomplish no matter how small it may seem to you.  Your pet lives to make you happy and hearing your praise will motivate them to continue.

Remember, patience please.  Don’t become angry, frustrated or forceful as this can, and most likely will, turn your dog off and make this more of a reprimanding event versus a positive training session.  Surf the net for videos and tips on what others have tried and succeeded with.  We suggest you pick up a training manual.  Try reading material such as: “21 Days to Train Your Dog: Learn how any dog can be taught the basics of obedience training in just a few minutes each day” by Colin Tennant. This particular book provides an easy to follow guide for all.  This 21 day training program requires only 5 minute exercises 3 times each day!  Can you handle that? Each successive week becomes a little more demanding but it really does start out with the basis! Sit Fido.  Come Fido. Stay Fido.  Easy breezy.  Then things heat up with topics such as “Differences in canine and human perception, recognizing manipulative behavior, Training puppies and mature dogs, communicating with your dog via your voice and hand signals” and much more!

Remember, be positive, be patient and be practical!  Good Luck with your 21 Day Fix…and Fido’s too!
